The Battle for Tannenbruck Begins

Soviet paratroopers have taken a West German city and its river crossing overnight. They cannot be reinforced yet. Neither can the people coming to take it back.

May 1985. The Soviet 1st Paratroop Regiment under Colonel Michael Balakirev holds Tannenbruck against repeated Bundeswehr and US Army assaults, from the thirteenth to the twentieth. Take either side.

Companies, platoons, individuals, and anti-tank missile and artillery batteries. Snipers, leaders, helicopters, tanks and special forces. The Soviets had the element of surprise. NATO has armour and determination, and Tannenbruck and its river crossing are what both sides are fighting over.

Spend Your Action Points Well

Everything costs action points and you never have enough. Combined arms attacks need several things to happen in the same turn, and choosing which two of the three you can afford is most of the game.

Seven Turns, Easy to Learn

A quick-playing game with low counter density, played over seven turns on an area movement map where one inch is 750 to 1000 metres. The rules go down fast and the position changes faster.

Ruby ★★★★★

The asymmetrical player powers make each side feel genuinely different, and the city map forces you to make tough choices about cover and line of sight. Played through twice last night and already planning another session.

Violet ★★★★★

The scenario writing sells the tension even before you set up the map — I've played the river crossing three times now and it went down to the last turn each game. Losing reinforcements for both sides keeps every decision feeling desperate in the best way.

Eva N. ★★★★★

The two-player asymmetry here is what keeps me coming back — the paratroopers dig in while the counterattack has to race the clock, and every turn feels tense. Components are clean and the rules for the river crossing clicked after one playthrough.
