The Desert Changes Hands Again

The desert war ran back and forth across the same thousand miles for three years. Towns were taken, lost and taken again by armies that could see each other coming from a long way off and still could not stop it.

The whole of it is yours, from the first clashes in 1940 to the finish in Tunisia.

Long sight lines mean armour and anti-tank guns settle most of what happens, and infantry has to cross ground with nothing on it at all. Rommel's Afrika Korps and Italian infantry, with Folgore paratroopers when the fighting gets close. The British Eighth Army and Commonwealth troops opposite them, Free French holding a position, and green American units getting their first day of combat at Torch.

Sand, Heat and Open Ground

The desert has its own rules here, and they change how far you can move, how far you can see and how long you can afford to sit still.

Heroes of North Africa Companion book covers all the module rules, scenarios and important player aids. The Companion book can be used along with our board game edition or for virtual gaming online.

Sophia ★★★★★

The detailed campaign maps really help visualize the back-and-forth nature of the desert fighting. The companion book adds just the right amount of historical context without overwhelming the game rules.

Steven ★★★★★

The historical notes on the back-and-forth desert campaigns add real weight to each scenario, making the retreats and counterattacks feel purposeful rather than random. It’s a solid companion that fills in the gaps the maps alone can’t show.

Amelia ★★★★★

I’ve played three scenarios so far and the historical notes really bring the back-and-forth nature of the desert war to life. The map’s terrain details make each battle feel distinct.
